SFHC assumes active role in DOTr’s North-South Railway Project
Social Housing Finance Corporation is one of the key
agencies that is playing a vital role in the second phase of the North-South
Commuter Rail Project, which is aimed at improving transportation and logistics
services between Metro Manila and Legazpi City in Albay Province.
Under the memorandum of agreement signed on December
28, 2017, SHFC President Atty. Arnolfo Ricardo B. Cabling, Department of Transportation
(DOTr) Secretary Arthur P. Tugade, Housing and Urban Development Council
Chairman Eduardo D. Del Rosario, and Philippine National Railways General
Manager Junn B. Magno, an initial amount of Php 3 billion has been made
available to SHFC to implement community-driven projects for about 26,000
families at the Tutuban-Los Baños segment and Calamba-Batangas branchline. The
amount will be used to administer social housing schemes such as the Community
Mortgage Program, Abot Kaya Pabahay Fund, and High Density Housing Projects in
the affected areas.
SHFC is also mandated to provide technical
assistance to community associations during the actual implementation of the
housing projects and deliver support to the Presidential Commission for the
Urban Poor, local government units, and civil society organizations, on the
social preparation activities of affected communities, specifically on the loan
documentation processes.
On January 12, SHFC Board of Directors and Senior
Officers, headed by Atty. Cabling, together with representatives from DOTr,
Asian Development Bank, and Japan International Cooperation Agency, conducted a
railway project visit from Solis station in Manila to Los Baños, Laguna for the
resettlement plan of families to be affected in the Phase II of the project,
which includes Tutuban, Calamba, Batangas, Legazpi, and Matnog.
